Our Model
Academics
Standards First. Interests as the Pathway. Mastery as the Destination.
BPS is being designed around rigorous, standards-aligned academic instruction. Mississippi academic standards will determine what students are expected to know and be able to do. The BPS instructional model will expand the pathways through which students access, practice, apply, demonstrate, and extend that learning.
Performing arts, athletics, aquatics, STEAM, technology, and student interests will supplement - not replace - explicit academic instruction.
Strong Core Instruction
Students will receive grade-level instruction designed around clear learning expectations, explicit teaching, meaningful practice, assessment, feedback, intervention, and enrichment. BPS intends to use student performance data to identify needs early and respond through a coordinated system of core instruction, targeted intervention, intensive support, and acceleration.
Literacy Across the BPS Experience
Literacy will extend beyond the English classroom. Students may read, write, research, speak, present, analyze, and communicate through academic subjects, performances, STEAM projects, leadership experiences, athletics, and other authentic contexts. The pathway may change. The academic expectation does not.
Neurodiversity, SPED & Student Supports
Different Minds. Brighter Futures.
BPS is being designed as an inclusive public-school community for students with a wide range of strengths, abilities, talents, learning profiles, and support needs. This includes intentional attention to students who may be neurodivergent, gifted, twice-exceptional (2e), students with disabilities, students requiring intervention, and students whose strengths may not always be captured by traditional measures.
Support Without Lowering Expectations
At BPS, providing access will not mean automatically reducing intellectual demand. Students may require accommodations, assistive technology, sensory supports, specialized instruction, related services, intervention, acceleration, or different ways of demonstrating learning. A student may simultaneously possess significant strengths and significant support needs. Intervention must never become a ceiling.
Special Education & Student Services
If authorized, BPS will serve eligible students with disabilities consistent with applicable federal and state requirements, including Child Find, evaluation, eligibility, individualized educational programming, accommodations, related services, and appropriate progress monitoring.
Performing Arts
A Stage for Every Talent.
Performing arts are central to the proposed BPS student experience because creativity, communication, discipline, confidence, and expression can become powerful pathways to engagement and achievement. Students may have opportunities to explore music, theater, dance, performance, production, digital media, and other forms of creative expression.
We will not take the microphone away until the child learns to read. We will use the microphone to help teach the child to read.
STEAM & Innovation
Imagine. Design. Build. Discover.
STEAM at BPS will connect science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics with authentic problem-solving and standards-aligned learning. Students may engage in robotics, coding, engineering, design, technology, environmental inquiry, makerspace experiences, mathematical modeling, scientific investigation, and interdisciplinary projects.
Blue STEAM
BPS is developing Blue STEAM, an interdisciplinary instructional framework that uses water, aquatics, environmental inquiry, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, wellness, safety, and the arts as authentic contexts for learning.
Athletics, Wellness & Aquatics
Move. Compete. Grow. Belong.
Athletics and wellness at BPS are intended to support physical health, confidence, teamwork, perseverance, discipline, leadership, and belonging. Aquatics is part of the proposed BPS wellness and instructional vision. Final programming and facilities remain subject to authorization, funding, facility feasibility, safety requirements, staffing, and governing-board approval.
Student Experience & Life Ready
Imagine a school day with more reasons to show up.
Learn. Strong core instruction.- Create. Arts, STEAM, design, and exploration.
- Perform. Opportunities to develop and share talent.
- Compete. Athletics, teamwork, wellness, and personal growth.
- Belong. Relationships and a school culture where students are known.
- Achieve. Clear goals, intervention, acceleration, and preparation for the future.
BPS intends to prepare students not only to complete school, but to navigate life. As students progress toward high school, the proposed model will increasingly incorporate practical life-readiness experiences such as financial literacy, personal finance, culinary skills, household management, entrepreneurship, leadership, career exploration, college awareness, and preparation for adult responsibilities.
